The Story behind the story...
UNPLUG is a Sci-fi Thriller independent film born out of blood, sweat, and tears of the Mortenson Brothers. Adam and Joseph reside in Anderson, SC and are located exactly 2,028 miles from Hollywood. So, creating a feature film seemed like a crazy idea, but they did it anyways. No investors. No connections. No crew. Just two guys with a camera. Operating with a crew of only two (sometimes 3!), they shot on weekends over the course of 8 months. This project truely embodied the spirit of no-budget filmmaking: eternally optimistic, yet fully cognizent of all potential challenges. Rain, sickness, and more threw curveballs at their plans, but the team stuck together and worked hard. Ultimately, perhaps with some divine intervention, all plans came to fruition and they were able to complete the ambitious, soon to be cult classic sci-fi thriller film UNPLUG!
When a mysterious Orb is discovered, a group of high-schoolers are forced to face both strained relationships and past actions in an effort to combat the deceitful temptation of misconstrued justice that resides within....
The Film
UNPLUG presents itself initially as a fun, brutal, 80s era inspired thriller movie following High schoolers as they are thrown into a survival situation. But viewers begin to realize much more is being explored. Complex themes around justice, mercy, what it takes to both forgive and ask for forgiveness, revenge, guilt, and even the complex world of AI sentience is packaged into this energetic 2-hour film seemlessly.
